Live Croydon Housing Seminar Tuesday 22nd May 2012 9am to 2.30pm Croydon College Conference Centre
Taking place at Croydon College on Tuesday 22nd May, the half day Live Croydon Housing Seminar
looks to discuss and understand the opportunities for future housing projects in the borough. Attended by senior housing and
planning decision makers from the London Borough of Croydon, this will provide a unique opportunity to find out how Croydon
is responding to recent changes in the housing sector, what it means for developers and how the authority is looking to work
in partnership to overcome challenges and continue the strong record of housing delivery across the borough.
Topics for discussion include: - Plans outlined in the OAPF (Croydon Opportunity Area Planning Framework) for around 20,000 residents to move into
8,000 new homes in Croydon town centre over the next 20 years and Croydon Council’s commitment not only to create opportunities
for quality residential and commercial buildings but also the spaces in between – improved streets, a stronger retail
sector, better transport facilities, green spaces and public realm. Includes a preview of sites before goes to consultation
in June.
- Collaborative working for building new sustainable
communities and affordable housing.
- Working with the London Borough
of Croydon and their flexibility and relaxation of planning rules and policies.
- Institutional investment and market rates. Taking a long term investment perspective and looking at how to make market
returns more worthwhile.
- The introduction of a Community Infrastructure
Levy (CIL), monetary contributions from new developments to help fund new or improved facilities required by the growth in
Croydon (schools, community facilities, transport, parks and open spaces) and additional funding infrastructures.
- Conversions schemes from redundant offices and other buildings (e.g. schools) to residential properties. Relaxation
of planning constraints to encourage development, support local economic strategies and make best of existing properties.
- Funding – changes, difficulties and new and innovative method
schemes to achieve strategic housing objectives.

“The
London Plan and the associated Opportunity Area Planning Framework for central Croydon illustrates the GLA's belief in
the growth potential of Croydon Town Centre as a great place to live and work. We support the Borough's ambitions to support
the development of over 7000 new homes in the centre. Through the Mayor's Regeneration Fund, the GLA is committing £18m
to improve the infrastructure, public realm and arrival points into Croydon. This complements substantial capital investment
from the Borough and other investors. We believe this investment will transform the feel of central Croydon and create an
attractive context for developers to bring forward successful residential and commercial schemes.” Eleanor Purser, Head
of Investment & Regeneration at the GLA
